Dover Castle |
|
Dover Castle sits on top of the White Cliffs of Dover, with a panaramic
view of the English Chanel and Dover ports.
Dover Castle dates back to Henry II (AD 1100).
Today, Dover Castle is run by English Heritage. Much of the building has
been restored and opened to the public.
This can take up to 1/2 a day to cover. There is a mini-train to take
you round and see the main sights, which can be useful for those with
disabilities.

|
 |
If you wish you can just wonder around, as there is plenty to see, along
with the spectacular views from the top of Dover Castle.
Sitting
alongside Dover Castle is the Roman Pharos (or lighthouse), of which
over half still stands.
|
|
White Cliffs |
|
Sitting beside Dover Castle are the 'White Cliffs of Dover', which
stretch for five miles.
All of which can be walked, and on a clear day you can see across the
sea to France.
|
 |
|
 |
The White Cliffs of Dover overlook the ports. You can watch the coming
and goings of the ferries and shipping passing through the English
channel.
It is a lovely place to have a rest after Dover Castle.

This Battle of Britain Memorial site is situated in a peaceful setting
in Capel-le-Ferne, just outside Dover, overlooking the English Channel.
At the Battle of Britain
Memorial you can stroll among the memorials which consist of a stone
pilot, gazing into the skies above the English Channel.

This stands in the centre
of 3 propellers measuring 38 metres long, which has been cut into the
chalk of the cliffs.
The Battle of
Britain Memorial over the year has ceremonial and remembrance days. |
