Dover Castle

Dover Castle sits on top of the White Cliffs of Dover, with a platform view of the English Chanel and Dover ports.

Dover Castle dates back to Henry II (AD 1100).

Today, Dover Castle is run by English Heritage. Much of the building has been restored and opened to the public. T

his can take up to 1/2 a day to cover. There is a mini-train to take you round and see the main sights, which can be useful for those with disabilities.

If you wish you can just wonder around, as there is plenty to see, along with the spectacular views from the top of Dover Castle.

Sitting alongside Dover Castle is the Roman Pharos (or lighthouse), of which over half still stands.

 

Canterbury Cathedral

Canterbury Cathedral was founded by St. Augustine in 597 AD and is the senior  of the Anglican churches.

It is well known for the stained glass windows and 14th century Nave.
