Dover Castle |
|
 |
On the
hills overlooking the town of Dover and the port is the castle
dating back to Henry II (1100).
Today,
the
castle is run by
English Heritage. Much of the building has been restored and
opened to the public. This can take up to 1/2 a day to
cover. There is a mini-train to take you round and see the main
sights, which can be useful for those with disabilities.
If
you wish you can just wonder around, as there is plenty to see, along with
the spectacular views from the top of the castle.
Sitting alongside the castle is the Roman Pharos (or
lighthouse), of which over have half still stands. |

is a Battle of Britain Airbase. Part of the museums buildings date back to 1940
and bear the marks of war. Coming here you will see many relics which
remain from the Battle of Britain.
For those of you
that served here, it will be a trip down memory lane.
You can stop and
have lunch at the pub filmed in the 'Battle of Britain' film.
