Although built in 1714 the Palace is probably most famous for
being the birth place of Sir Winston Churchill, born on the
30th November 1874 at 01.30am.
Even though this was not his official home he spent many happy
years here and in 1908 standing by the lake he proposed to his
wife, Miss Clementine Hozier. part of the Palace is dedicated
to a Churchill exhibition, including his birth room, pictures
and statues.
Churchill and his wife are buried in the nearby churchyard at
Bladon, beside his parents Lord and Lady Randolph Churchill.
The palace
consists of many exciting rooms, like the Great Hall, Sallon
(which is a grand dining room with wonderful murals and
paintings by Louis Laguerre). There are three glamorous state
rooms, with an extremely long library.
During your
visit, take the time to visit the gardens surrounding Blenheim
Palace, which consist of a tranquil Water Terrace along with
the peaceful Italian Garden and stunning Rose Garden. |
