Dover Castle |
|
 |
On the
hills overlooking the town of Dover and the port is the castle
dating back to Henry II (1100).
Today,
the
castle is run by
English Heritage. Much of the building has been restored and
opened to the public. This can take up to 1/2 a day to
cover. There is a mini-train to take you round and see the main
sights, which can be useful for those with disabilities.
If
you wish you can just wonder around, as there is plenty to see, along with
the spectacular views from the topp[ of the castle.
Sitting alongside the castle is the Roman Pharos (or
lighthouse), of which over have half still stands. |

White Cliffs
|
|
 |
Sitting
beside Dover Castle are the 'White Cliffs of Dover', which
stretch for five miles.
All of
which can be walked, and on a clear day you can see across
the sea to France.
As well
as overlooking the port, you can watch the coming and goings
of the ferries and shipping passing through the channel.
It is a lovely place to
have a rest after Dover Castle.
