The Anchor is a charming pub, situated on the
river between the Tate Modern and Southwark Bridge. Rebuilt in the 17th century,
the building replaces that frequented by Shakespeare and Pepy's. It is claimed
that Pepy's watched the Great Fire (1666) from here. Great pub to visit in the
summer, as there are plenty of tables outside. Or you can just sit on the river
wall and enjoy a drink. Upstairs there is a restaurant, although a bit more
expensive then most pubs. The
Anchor Pub was also used in the closing sequence of the film Mission
Impossible. |
