Although
architecturally uninspiring, this pub offers some excellent views
across the river towards St Paul's and the Middle Temple. It takes
it name from Thomas Doggart who instituted a race (called the
Doggets Coat and Badge) to commemorate the accession to the throne
of George I. It is rowed over a course of 4.5 miles from Chelsea to
London Bridge about the end of July. The winner receives a scarlet
coat and silver badge. An example of which can be seen in the pub.
The pub has a large open-air seating area
around the back and a few tables at the front as well. This makes it
ideal for families in the summer. children are allowed in the
restaurant area and the bars (if they are not busy). |
