This
pub can be found a few doors along from the Tate
Britain gallery. Facing the river it is a pleasant place to enjoy a drink. Food
is available, with tables and chairs outside the pub, making it ok for children
in good weather. The Morpeth Arms and Tate gallery occupy land on which once
stood the Millbank Prison. The cellars are connected to tunnels that were used
to take prisoners to the river where they were put on barges to take them
downriver so they could be transferred to larger seagoing ships for
transportation to the colonies.
