The first dock to be built here was in 1828, along with warehouses, but the dock
had a small lock entrance, which didn’t allow large boats to enter, in 1968 the
docks were closed and sold off.
In 1973 the Tower Thistle hotel was built there and the docks started to come
alive again, with luxury apartments and modern offices and shops coming into the
area.

Today the dock has become quite busy, and the marina sees many historic boats as
well as luxurious yachts coming in to moor.
St Katharine’s
dock is just across the road from the tower of London and Tower Bridge and it is
quite tranquil to sit here and have a bite to eat, looking over the boats, after
a hard days walking. |
