This church was named
after St. Giles who was the patron saint of cripples in the 11th
century.
After surviving the
Great Fire it was almost destroyed by a bombing raid in World
War II and didn’t get rebuilt until 1960, when it became the
parish church of the newly developed Barbican.
Within the church is
an 18th century organ case and font.
In the churchyard you
can see a bastion from the original city walls.
Oliver Cromwell had
his wedding here in 1620.
John Milton was buried here in 1674 but later in 1793 his coffin
was raided with parts of his body removed and sold off.
