The church built on land previously belonging to St James's Palace and was the
only church of Wren to be built on new land.
The church became the leading design for other cities and towns to follow, due
to the fact that wherever you sat you could hear the sermon clearly.
Much of the interior was designed and produced by Grinling Gibbons and is
admired throughout the world.
Many famous people had connections with this church over the years.
In 1946 the church opened its gardens as a memorial to Londoners killed during
the Blitz. |
