ST. LAWRENCE JEWRY.
This church, which was dedicated to St Lawrence, who was roasted alive on a gridiron in the 3rd century, was founded in the 12th century.
Wren rebuilt the church in 1671—7. But was later bombed in World War II and all that remained was the walls of the tower.
Cecil Brown rebuilt the church in 1954—7. Inside, the font dates back to 1620 and commemorates Sir Thomas More who used to preach here.
Most of the interior furniture was donated by different Livery Companies.
Since 1820 the Corporation and livery Companies have worshipped here.
