4th church to stand on this site since the 7th century.
The present Saint Paul's Cathedral was completed in 1710 and
designed by Christopher Wren. It is a magnificent example of his
genius.
The dome (the second largest in the world) is modelled on the
Pantheon in Rome, and the front entrance follows the form of a
classical temple, two towers in the Baroque style flank this.
Princess Diana was married in here. Wren, Nelson and Wellington are
among the many famous people buried here. |
