The Constitution Arch
was designed by Decimus Burton and erected in 1828. It was
originally known as the Wellington Arch. The Arch was moved to
its present site in 1883 from nearby Apsley House. On top is a
bronze statue known as the Quadriga.
Above the four horses
harnessed to the Quadriga is a huge figure of peace descending
from heaven.
Shortly before the
completion of the statue a dinner for eight people was held in
one of the horses.
