In the attic of this 17th century house Dr Johnson dreamed up
the idea of an English dictionary. The house is the only
original house on the street. The white and yellow pine beams
were bought from America by boat. In 1758 Johnson got into debt
and was arrested, a year later he moved from the house. In 1910
Carlyle Harmsworth, who restored the house and then opened it up
to the public, bought the house. |
