FREEMAN
HALL. |
|
The building that stands here is the third hall to be built. The first hall was
built in 1775 and the present one was built in 1927—33. The Duke of Connaught
was the Grand Master at the time of the opening of the building.
This building is the headquarters for the United Grand Lodge of England.
Originally it was known as the Masonic Peace Memorial for the freemasons that
lost their lives in WWI.

The remains of
the second hall built by Cockerell in 1864, which were called the Connaught
Rooms, still stand and is now the banqueting room, known as the Grand Hall. |
