KENSINGTON PALACE. |
Recently, most
famous as the home of Princess Diana. Each year on the anniversary of her death,
flowers are placed outside the gates in memory of her.
Originally called Nottingham House. After being bought by William III and Mary
II in 1689 they commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to transform the house into a
Palace. |
 |
In 1714 Queen Anne died here and in 1819 Queen Victoria was born here, spending
most of her childhood within the Palace,
Over half of the palace is open to the public, with tours available, so you can
see many staterooms, which are finely decorated. As you enter the Palace there
is an exhibition of royal dresses from 1760 to the present day.
The other half of the palace is shut off as Royals still live here.
As you enter the palace there is a statue of a Queen Victoria, which was
sculpted by her daughter Princess Louise. |
