LEIGHTON HOUSE. |
|
This redbrick house was built for Frederic Lord Leighton, with the help of his
friends; he designed it himself, and then lived here until his death in 1896.
The main room is the Arab Hall, which has a large centrepiece featuring a dome
from Damascus.
|
 |
|
The collection from Cairo consists of 15th and 16th century Islamic tiles, which
are very rare, along with window screens.
Throughout the
other rooms you can see a collection of other fine art that Lord Leighton
collected along with Sir Casper Purdon Clarke and Sir Richard Burton.
