MARITIME
MUSEUM. |
|
Formally a school for sailor’s orphans, the Queens House and its wings, are
today the home of the National Maritime Museum. (Opened in 1937).
The entrance to the museum has an open– well staircase which is the earliest in
England.
The Wings (1809) are connected to the Queens house by Colonnades that were
commissioned to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar. |

MUSEUM.
Although
looking around some museums can be hard going with children, going to Greenwich
is well worth a day out. The museum has plenty of different film footage of the
navy and plenty of hands on equipment for the children and adults to try out.
There is also a children's area with loads of fun things to play with,( trying
to direct a cannon at a target or even learning the different methods of
communication on board a ship.) If you want there is a little classroom where
you can be taught how to make different paper boats.
If the children do get a little stale there is always the park outside to let
them get off some steam and then continue when they are ready. |

STUART'S REPORT.
Maritime Museum
The Maritime
is a brilliant place. You can learn a lot about the history of the navy as well
as having fun. There is a workshop for all ages with glue and paper. In the
children's area there is a lot of naval equipment to play with. While going
around the museum you can see short videos. My favourite activity is playing on
the sonar equipment which allows you to plot a course to destroy the enemy.
There is also an activity sheet to follow around the museum.
