The name was first used in
the 15th century to describe this 206ft hill, taking its name from the flower
that grew there.
In the early 1800’s the
hill was popular with duellists who came here to settle their differences.
In 1964 an oak tree was
planted at the foot the hill to commemorate the birth of Shakespeare.
One of the best features of
today's park, is the view across London offered from its tranquil green space of
112 acres.
